Hammerschmiede Burghausen

Burghausen, Bayern, Deutschland

Visit the oldest operating hammer forge in Europe.

At the edge of town, on the way to Raitenhaslach, the Burghausen hammer forge is idyllically situated.

It was first mentioned in 1465 as the dukes' weapons forge. George the Rich always saw the forge fire from the castle. In 1516, the forge was then documented by Duke Wilhelm IV of Bavaria.

In 1997, the Wagenhofer couple took over the forge in the 6th generation and began an extensive renovation of the buildings with the aim of continuing to operate the hammer forge and thus not letting this old profession die out.

Today, the hammer forge invites you to visits, tours by arrangement and seminars.

Let yourself be carried away into the history of the art of blacksmithing and the importance of the blacksmith's craft.
