Frequently Asked Questions

The Quellenviertel is situated in the west of Upper Austria, near the border with Bavaria and not far from Salzburg. The region stretches around Braunau am Inn, Ried im Innkreis, Grieskirchen and Vöcklabruck – amidst rolling hills, forests, rivers and small towns.

The name has several meanings. Taken quite literally, it refers to the region’s hot thermal and mineral springs – such as those in Bad Schallerbach and Geinberg. At the same time, ‘Quelle’ symbolises renewed vigour, inspiration and a zest for life. The Quellenviertel brings together four established tourist regions to form a single destination.

Because so many things come together here quite naturally: nature and small towns, thermal spas and exercise, culture and authentic pub moments. You can go for a walk through the moor in the morning, cycle in the afternoon and round off the day with regional cuisine or in the warm thermal waters. The distances between these activities are pleasantly short.

The Quellenviertel is easily accessible by car and train. Depending on your holiday destination, suitable railway stations include Bad Schallerbach, Grieskirchen-Gallspach, Ried im Innkreis, Braunau am Inn, Vöcklabruck and Attnang-Puchheim. There are also good connections to the region from Linz, Salzburg and Munich.

Down-to-earth, regional and quite varied. In the Quellenviertel, traditional pub fare, craft beer, bread and baked goods, cider, organic produce and specialities sourced directly from regional producers are simply part of the experience. Added to this are cosy pubs, breweries, direct-to-consumer outlets and special places to enjoy a treat.

From cosy little rooms to comfortable spa hotels, there’s something for everyone. You’ll find hotels, guesthouses, holiday flats, private rooms and farm stays – perfect for a short break as well as for longer getaways, family holidays or a cycling tour.

And how! Set amongst river landscapes, forests and rolling hills, you’ll find leisurely routes perfect for enjoying the scenery, as well as longer and more challenging tours. Well-known routes such as the Discovery Cycle Tour, the Inn Cycle Route, the Tauern Cycle Route and the Roman Cycle Route wind their way through the region – with plenty of opportunities to stop for a bite to eat along the way.

Hiking here is less about breaking summit records and more about being outdoors. You can look forward to leisurely walks, paths through woods and meadows, themed walks and longer pilgrimage routes through the rolling countryside. With routes such as the VIA NOVA or the Marien-Wanderweg, there’s something for everyone, including those who enjoy longer walks.
