Club History

The Beginning
Football enthusiasts from Grieskirchen came together to establish the Sports Club Grieskirchen in the year 1936. Initially, the footballers faced resistance everywhere. However, this did not deter the first officials from introducing football in Grieskirchen and enabling the youth to play football in a club.
A few years later, a wartime event cast its shadow and the young club had to suspend its sports activities during World War II in the year 1943.

The Reestablishment
Despite the lack of sufficient players, officials, and equipment, the Sports Club Grieskirchen was re-established on October 15, 1945, by the athletes Josef Ortner, Heinrich Strasser, Fritz Bauer, and Heinrich Kies-Humer, and was approved by the then responsible Upper Austrian regional government in Linz under the No. II Pol 820/2-1945 on December 14, 1945.
In a swift process, the American occupying forces made the former Übleiswiese available to the sports club as a field of activity. Shortly thereafter, the club also joined the Upper Austrian Football Association and the General Sports Association of Upper Austria.

The first chairman of the club was Heinrich Kies-Humer. The first championship began in the 1946/47 season. The Trattnachtal Stadium was opened on August 6, 1967. By a board resolution, the Trattnachtal Stadium was renamed IPZ Stadium on October 10, 2009. This was communicated to our president and sponsor Alfred Zechmeister on his 20th company anniversary.

In 1971, following a resolution by the general assembly, the name was expanded to Sports Club Pöttinger Grieskirchen.
