The historical play takes visitors back to the time when the world-famous song "Silent Night" was composed. Among other things, it also tells of the composer's childhood and the difficult time when he was secretly given organ lessons. In Oberndorf, he met Josef Mohr, who had written the lyrics to "Silent Night". On Christmas Eve 1818, the song was sung for the first time in the church in Oberndorf.

"THE SEARCH FOR THE SILENT NIGHT"

The well-known historical play "The Search for the Silent Night" will take place in 2025 from Fri 12.12 - Sun 14.12 in the Hochburg parish church together with the craft market directly in front of the Franz Xaver Gruber Memorial House.

Visitors are transported back to the time in which the world-famous song was written. They are taken on a journey to the various stages of the song
stations of the song from Leipzig via Tyrol to Oberndorf and Hochburg.
Among other things, you will learn about the composer's childhood and hear the song in different languages. Afterwards, you can visit the atmospheric craft market and admire old handicraft techniques.
