Tittmoning

Anyone approaching the small town of Tittmoning, which lies directly on the Salzach, will first notice the imposing castle that towers high above the historic town square. It was built by the archbishops of Salzburg, as the border town belonged to Salzburg for over a thousand years before the Rupertiwinkel and with it Tittmoning fell to Bavaria in 1816.

The old town with its colorful facades in the typical Inn-Salzach style looks back on an eventful history, of which the castle with its museums (Rupertiwinkel Museum and Tannery Museum) is evidenced by the almost completely preserved medieval city wall, numerous churches worth seeing, monuments and fountains. Castle and city tours, including special topics, open up the history of the city to visitors in an appealing way.

The old town streets, the Ponlach Park with its pilgrimage church and the wildly romantic waterways, the castle and the Salzach meadows invite you to take romantic walks and linger. Located on numerous pilgrimage routes and cycle routes, the pearl on the Salzach is also popular with hikers and cyclists. From spring to autumn, exhibitions, concerts, markets and festivals fill the castle complex with life. In the winter months, the Barbara market around the collegiate church and festive Advent concerts attract visitors before Christmas, as does the traditional “Kripperlroas”, a guided winter walk through the town from nativity scene to nativity scene, after the start of the year.

In summer, the newly renovated municipal seaside resort on the Leitgeringer Lake outside the town gates attracts visitors to bathe in a picturesque natural setting, and the campsite right next door offers comfort and peace for a holiday close to nature. A special attraction is the raft trips on the Salzach to nearby Burghausen, which you can set off from Tittmoning during the summer months.

On the tranquil town square, you will find many opportunities to shop all year round in specialist retail stores, for example for jewelry, wine, cheese, textiles and household goods. There are also numerous places to stop off here and in the individual districts, with cozy terraces and beer gardens, from traditional cafés and inns to international restaurants.
