Kloster Raitenhaslach

The baroque jewel at the gates of the city.

There are other art treasures to be seen outside the city gates, such as the former Cistercian monastery of Raitenhaslach, which was the first Cistercian monastery on old Bavarian soil (founded in 1146). The abbey was secularized in 1803.

The Raitenhaslach district was incorporated in 1978 and is located in a loop of the Salzach, embedded in untouched nature. The former monastery has been owned by the city of Burghausen since 2004. Since then, the outdoor facilities have been redesigned and open spaces have been created for changing art exhibitions.

The Raitenhaslach monastery was returned to its original purpose in the summer of 2016. It is open again for science and teaching, inner contemplation and meetings. After a short but complex restoration, the former Cistercian monastery is now the TUM Academy Center Raitenhaslach. Conferences, meetings and seminars can be held here. Tours of the monastery can be booked through the TUM Academy Center.

A visit to the 800-year-old Raitenhaslach monastery church is also worthwhile. Built on a Romanesque core, the grandiose baroque room with its rococo furnishings leaves an overwhelming overall impression: "Raitenhaslach is not one of the most serene churches of the Bavarian Baroque period, but one of the most exquisite and lovable because of the collection of its treasures."
