Rafting beach

Munderfing, Oberösterreich, Österreich

The Schwemmbach has always been an important part of the history of the municipality of Munderfing. As early as 1765, wood was drifted on the "Scheiterbach" - now Schwemmbach - from the Kobernaußerwald forest. This timber drift was a cheap means of transportation on the uninterrupted waterway to Dietfurt near Braunau. The rafting monument was created by sculptor Hans Messner to mark the 1200th anniversary of the municipality of Munderfing.

In the meantime, the Schwemmbach is no longer of any great economic importance to the village and its course through the village has in part faded into the background.

In the course of a large-scale public participation process in 2014 for the redesign of the town center, many citizens repeatedly expressed the desire to give the stream more presence again and make it "tangible"! This gave rise to the idea of the "rafters' beach" on the village square.
