A special jewel of the Innviertel region is the Lower Inn European nature reserve, which is home to more than 300 bird species. The Bavarian-Upper Austrian Lower Inn European nature reserve stretches across the border for 55 kilometres of river from the mouth of the Salzach to the mouth of the Rott near Neuhaus/Schärding. It consists of water areas, mud banks, alluvial forests and islands covering an area of 5,000 hectares.

Hagenau Castle in St. Peter am Hart is one of the Innviertel region’s most significant historic structures. The current Renaissance-style building dates back to the 16th century and impresses with its striking towers and enclosed castle grounds. The castle is privately owned and not open to the public . Visitors can only view the castle from the outside, though the view of the impressive structure and the historic castle church is particularly worth seeing.
