The importance of the town is closely linked to the history of the railroad, with a permanent train connection between Simbach and Munich from 1871. In addition to the modern engine shed, where parties, gastronomy and culture take place today, and the historic station building, the Reichsbahn steam locomotive on display in the station forecourt is still a reminder of Simbach am Inn's proud past. Even the legendary Orient Express had to stop in Simbach on its way from Paris to Vienna and Constantinople to complete the formalities of crossing the border.
