Vanuit Oostenrijk kun je genieten van het mooiste uitzicht op de oude Beierse hertogelijke stad. START: ALTE BRÜCKE over de Salzach, die sinds 1779 de grensrivier is tussen Beieren en het Innviertel, dat toen Oostenrijks werd. Links van de herberg Pachler loopt het pad vrij steil omhoog de Salzachhelling op.UITKIJKKANAAL MET PANORAMISCH UITZICHT De klim naar het uitkijkplatform (met kiosk en wc) wordt beloond met een onvergetelijk panoramisch uitzicht op de oude binnenstad van Burghausen en de langste burcht ter wereld die erboven uittorent: tussen de Salzach en de langgerekte burcht, die door slotgrachten in afzonderlijke delen is verdeeld, staan de herenhuizen dicht opeengepakt en steken de kerktorens van St Jakob en Heilig-Geist erboven uit. TUINEN AAN DE RIVIER EN EEN METALISCH HOROSCOOP Terug bij de Oude Brug volgt het pad de Salzach stroomopwaarts aan de Oostenrijkse kant. Langs de weg staan metalen sculpturen van de 12 tekens van de dierenriem en de kleine "Tuinen aan de rivier", die dateren van de transnationale State Garden Show in 2004. De kruistuin, oogsttuin, meditatietuin en kruidentuin voor de Maria Ach kerk zijn goed onderhouden en gevarieerd. Achter de tuinen verrijst de bedevaartskerk Maria Ach, waarvan de oorsprong teruggaat tot een Mariabeeld dat aanspoelde op de Salzach. De laatgotische kerk uit de eerste helft van de 15e eeuw werd rond 1640 gebarokiseerd met fraai stucwerk en in 1771 uitgebreid en versierd met fresco's van Johann Nepomuk della Croce. Tegenover de pastorie ligt de "Goldbrünnl", die net als het miraculeuze beeld in de kerk de bestemming is van pelgrims. De bron "Goldbrünnl" in Wanghausen wordt al genoemd in het epos van Meier-Helmbrecht (rond 1270). WANGHAUSEN KASTEEL (Gotische parel) Het vier verdiepingen tellende gebouw met een slank zadeldak en spitsbogen is nu privébezit. Vanaf de Nieuwe Brug, die weer naar de Beierse kant van de Salzach leidt, kun je genieten van een prachtig uitzicht op het gotische kasteel Wanghausen, waarvan de tuinen in de barokperiode werden heringericht. BRÄU-GARTL AN DER NEUEN BRÜCKE De "Bräu-Gartl", die pas in 2012 werd voltooid, nodigt kinderen uit om uit te rusten en te spelen in een schijnbaar paradijselijk parkje met ongewone rust- en zitplekken. SALZLÄNDE De weg langs de rivier de Salzlände werd in 1971 aangelegd als onderdeel van het hoogwaterbeschermingsprogramma voor de oude stad en verlichtte de druk op de "Grüben", tot dan toe de enige noord-zuidverkeersweg. RENAISSANCE-PERLE MAUTNERSCHLOSS Een blikvanger op de open ruimte van de Platzl, aan het begin van de "Grüben", is het renaissance-parel Mautnerschloss, dat de Mautners in de 16e eeuw als ambtswoning diende en waar later (1877-1879) Ludwig Thoma als leerling woonde. IN HET GROEN, DE STREET OF FAME Burghausen is sinds 1970 een jazzcentrum met de "International Jazz Week" en andere evenementen. Wereldberoemde musici die in Burghausen hebben opgetreden, zijn vereeuwigd op bronzen gedenkplaten in de voetgangerszone "in den Grüben" - ook bekend als de "Straat van de Roem". Als cultureel en evenementencentrum van de oude stad, maar ook als gastronomische en ambachtelijke mijl, bieden de Grüben speciale "Gassenhauer". Use an onboard computer that displays the respective kilometres travelled per day and is calibrated for the front wheel. 4.Special for mountain bikers – Fair-play rules: Mountain biking is one of the most wonderful outdoor leisure-time activities. Whilst biking or on a mountain biking tour, mountains and lakes, meadows and cabins are re-discovered in new ways. A couple of rules for fair play in the forest help to avoid conflicts whilst mountain biking. a.Pedestrians have the right of way: We are accommodating and friendly to pedestrians and hikers. Upon encountering these fellow travellers, we alert them by using the bicycle bell and slowly overtake them. We avoid paths with heavy pedestrian traffic altogether. Take nature into account: We do not leave refuse behind. b.The braking distance should be half of the total distance visible: We ride at a controlled pace, are ready to brake and maintain a braking distance half as long as the total distance visible, especially in curves, because we always have to count on obstacles on the path. Damage to the path, stones, branches, wood piles, grazing livestock, cattle grids, barriers, tractor-type forestry machines and authorised vehicles pose dangers that we need to be ready for. c.Don’t drink and drive!: Do not drink alcohol when mountain biking. Take care at stop-off points (dealing with bike racks, dirty shoes or clothing). It is obligatory to provide first aid! d.Marked routes, closed paths and blockades: Keep to the marked routes, observe the blockades and accept that these roads are primarily for agricultural and forestry use! Blockades can often not be avoided and are in your own interest. Biking beyond the intended path and outside of opening times is punishable and turns us into illegal bikers. e.We are guests in the forest and behave accordingly, including vis-à-vis forestry and hunting staff. Whilst mountain biking, mobile telephones and music players are forbidden! Biking requires your full attention. f.Avoid unnecessary noise. Out of consideration to the animals living in the wild, we only bike during full daylight. As a principle, we always wear our helmet (even when riding uphill)! Don’t forget emergency supplies: We always have a repair set and bandages along. g.Don’t overestimate your skills: We should not overdo it when it comes to biking technique and physical fitness. Take the level of difficulty posed by the route into consideration and make a precise estimate of your experience and skills as a biker (braking, bell, lights)! h.Close gates: We approach grazing livestock at a walking pace and close every gate behind us. We should avoid causing escape and panic reactions in the animals. Nothing stands in the way of the fun and athletic challenge in the mountains and forests! i.Traffic rules: The general traffic rules (StVO) apply for all the mountain biking routes and we adhere to them. Our bike therefore needs to be in perfect technical condition and equipped in line with the traffic rules, including brakes, a bell and lights.
