The first bridge over the Inn was built in 1260 on the orders of Duke Henry XIII.

In the centuries that followed, this wooden bridge was repeatedly destroyed by floods, gusts of wind, wars and fires.
After an ice storm in January 1880 tore away part of the wooden bridge connecting Braunau with Simbach, the Austrian and Bavarian governments jointly built a steel truss bridge on brick piers and abutments in 1892-94. This bridge was blown up at the end of the war in 1945.
It was not until 1950 that the new bridge was built by the Austrian and Bavarian governments in co-operation with the Linz-based "VOEST". It is a so-called "deck bridge", i.e. the carriageway is mounted above the supporting structure so that you have a clear view in all directions.
Length: around 272 metres
Carriageway width: 7.50 m
Two pavements: each 1.50 m wide.
