Chapels are significant in the landscape because they are positioned at crossroads and on the edges of small villages. What´s more, these picturesque chapels are significant on the religious landscape, because the Catholic tradition invites people to notice them, stop at them, pray at them, and take action at them. Lovely Hinterlohner Chapel was built in 1840 and extended in 1854. From 1993 through 1996 the chapel was completely refurbished with the help of numerous volunteers. The ample chapel features an altar that is mounted on two fine pillars and reredos. The altarpiece is said to originate from the parish church of Burghausen.
