The 73-meter-high tower was restored to its present form after the devastating storm of 1929. The interior surprises visitors with its spacious, barrel-vaulted chapel hall featuring uniform stucco work in the Régence style. Each of the eight narthex chapels was formerly dedicated to one of the local guilds, which were also responsible for their decoration. Of particular note here is the Brewers’ Altar, which was commissioned in 1669 by the Rieder brewers from the sculptor Thomas Schwanthaler. The interior decoration is largely the work of the Schwanthaler family of sculptors. In the Chapel of the Poor, the Mount of Olives group—attributed to Thomas Schwanthaler—is particularly impressive. A large number of remarkable tombstones are embedded in the church interior and on the southern exterior wall. Built on Gothic foundation walls between 1720 and 1734, the present Baroque structure features furnishings created by the Schwanthaler family of sculptors. Traces of the earlier Gothic structure are still visible in the tower’s basement and on the buttresses of the presbytery. The 73-meter-high tower was restored to its present form following the catastrophic storm of 1929. The interior surprises visitors with its expansive barrel vault adorned with uniform stucco work in the Régence style. There are eight guild chapels on each side of the nave. The high altar with its tabernacle, the Florian Altar, the pulpit, the statue of St. Anne, the Pietà, and the famous Mount of Olives group were created by the Schwanthaler family of sculptors.
