On replicas of the historic salt barges, the so-called Plätten, a traditional journey begins that is reminiscent of the salt trade of the past: In the Middle Ages, these wooden boats with a shallow keel transported the "white gold" from the Hallein salt works to Burghausen.You start in Tittmoning or Raitenhaslach, from where you head downstream towards Burghausen - until you reach the highlight of the trip: as you enter Burghausen, a picture-book panorama opens up as the world's longest castle rises high above the Salzach, with the colorful houses of the listed old town in the foreground. On the special cruises with Plätten-G'schichten, you can find out whether the salt boatmen used to enjoy this spectacular view when transporting the white gold and how life on the Salzach shaped them.
